Live Well, Feel Better 4-week Programme

The Live Well, Feel Better 4-week programme recently ran at Somer Valley House, offering patients a supportive space to explore healthier lifestyles and improve their wellbeing. Over four weekly in-person group sessions, participants focused on practical changes in areas like eating well, managing stress, improving sleep, and increasing movement. This programme was designed for individuals with a higher BMI and non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, focusing on lifestyle improvement and overall wellbeing. It aimed to reduce the risk of long-term illness through small, sustainable changes and healthy weight management. What made it unique was its whole-person approach—encouraging each person to focus on the areas that mattered most to them.

In just 22 days, every participant saw meaningful improvements in their overall wellbeing. On average, happiness increased by 21%, mental wellbeing improved by nearly 10%, and confidence in managing their health grew by over 14%. These positive changes help support healthier choices that can lead to a healthier weight and lower the risk of chronic diseases. Anxiety levels dropped by more than a third, with some people making even greater progress—one person reduced their anxiety by 86%, and another reported feeling 67% more satisfied with life. But the most powerful feedback came directly from participants:‘Really enjoyed every session – very encouraging’‘A really open and supportive group’‘Gave me the opportunity to make a plan and talk through next steps’‘You’ve taught me that I can believe in myself.’‘So lovely to know there are people out there who care.’

Participants also created personal wellbeing plans to continue their progress after the programme, supported by a strong group connection and a sense of shared motivation. The sessions were led by Health Coach Laura Wooding, with support from Care Co-ordinators Sue Bendall and Abi Wenmoth.

Live Well, Feel Better proved that positive change doesn’t have to happen alone, and that with the right support, feeling better can be the first step to living well.
