Richard became a physician associate in 2019, initially working for a large practice in Birmingham as part of an internship programme before taking up a job at Somerton House surgery. Prior to this he worked for over ten years in social care, specifically supporting adults with learning difficulties in the community. 

 

As the physician associate programme trains individuals to become generalists, the role is very transferable to general practice. Richard enjoys most aspects of his work, and has an interest in mental health. He is also keen to develop skills and special interests in other aspects of general practice as he gains more experience. 

 

In his spare time Richard likes to dine out and travel. He is currently renovating an old barn with his partner which takes up many a weekend.
